Otukpo town in Benue State played host once again to an ever growing youth inspired, and youth motivated basketball tournament in December 2012 at the annual Mark D Ball Basketball Tournament.  The tournament had both female and male teams come from around Nigeria to compete with each other.
The sports festival, as some might call it, was patronized by famous names from the Nigerian entertainment industry such as 2Face Idibia, himself a native of Idoma land (Benue State), Sound Sultan, Ikechukwu and Vector. From the sporting sector, veterans of the Nigerian National BasketBall team, such as ten-time captain, Tunji Awojobi, John Allagh, Osita Nwachukwu, amongst many other notable names were present.  NBA draft Ejike Ugboaja of the Cleveland Cavaliers, brought some international experience to the field; he was named the MVP of the tournament.
Also in attendance were some dignitaries such as the Senate President, David Mark; Federal Minister of interior, Abba Moro  and Bongos Ikwue – whose chain of Double K hotels acted as the largest hospitality provider for the tournament.
Igoche Mark, a special assistant and younger brother to the Senate President is the brain behind the initiative. According to the organisers, the 12th edition of Mark D Ball was “definitely a success with side attractions such as a Miss Idoma Beauty Pageant and parties organized by RedBox Inc“. They promise an improved and bigger 13th edition.
In the Ladies’ category, the Dolphins of Lagos took home the trophy, and for the men, it was the Blame It On Experience (BIOE) team that took the trophy.

Kanye's relationship with Kim K is really hurting his career

According to market research Kanye West has officially fallen off...

From Huffington Post
According to data analyzed from E-Poll Market Research, which assigns stars an "E-Score" to measure their marketability, West's fragile popularity has indeed made a southbound U-turn in the past half year. West first stepped out with his new girlfriend in April 2012. A coincidence? Likely not.
"He was starting to bounce back from [the 2009 VMA incident with Taylor Swift]," E-Poll Senior Director of Marketing and Communications Randy Parker told the Huffington Post. "There does appear to there is some sort of fallback or blowback from him hooking up with Kim. One of the things we measure is an attribute called 'Overexposed'. We find that people use it as a general way of saying, 'I’ve had it with you. You’ve just gone a little too far.' I’m guessing his overexposed score is quite high.

What is wrong with this photo?

It's not the obvious...you have to really look to see it. Oh dear! Haha!!! Can anyone see it???

King Sunny Ade reacts to his ex-guitarist drug arrest

King Sunny Ade's ex-guitarist, 62year old Fatoke Abiodun (left) was arrested on Tuesday January 1 2013 at MMIA with 1.575kg of cocaine as he attempted to leave Nigeria. Fatoke said he turned to drugs after he was unceremoniously retired in 2007 without severance pay after playing with KSA for 30 years. King Sunny Ade has finally reacted, saying his former guitarist was not a member of staff of his company but just a member of his band, who was not entitled to a severance pay. What he told Punch below...
I pay salaries to the members of staff of my company. As for my band members, we share money based on what we make at every show where we perform. I would first of all, remove the money for taxes, equipment we used and other stuff connected to the performance. Thereafter, the remaining money is shared among all of us. Before now, I advised my band members that we should have a common purse, where we should leave money for welfare. But they refused and insisted that everything should be shared.
If he and the others had agreed to my advice then, he wouldn’t have had any reason to say he didn’t get any severance allowance,”

Saturday, January 12, 2013 Nuella responds to reports she's dating a South-South Governor

This is a press statement from actress Nuella Njubigbo's publicist reacting to a recent report by Stella Dimoko Korkus about Nuella being in a hot romance with a South-South governor. See it below....
Few days ago a report surfaced online that our client, Nuella Njubigbo is in a sizzling romance with a South-South governor, who bought her the 2012 Toyota Highlander SUV that was recently reported. We would have ignored this but seeing that it came from the same writer who had ’supposedly broken’ the news of Nuella’s ‘romantic dalliances’ with two other men in the last eight months; hence we chose otherwise.
Firstly, our client has never met with the said governor. How can you travel with and ‘romance’ someone you have never met? This kind of magic can only happen in the writer’s concoctions of lies.

Jonathan seeks amendment to $7.9bn external borrowing plan

President Goodluck Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan has written to the Senate for an amendment of the $7.905bn 2012-2014 Medium Term External Borrowing Plan.
In the letter, which was read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, Jonathan said the plan would now include a $200m water supply project for Rivers State.
According to him, the additional item will be funded by the African Development Bank and will provide potable water supply to residents of the state.
The President said, “Second, the Federal Government is currently developing a low-income housing finance facility to support the provision of affordable homes for Nigerians.
“This scheme will be financed using a $300m credit facility from the World Bank. We would like to swap this new $300m facility with the proposed guarantees for the power sector in the draft borrowing plan, thereby ensuring that we do not increase the overall size of loans proposed in the external borrowing plan.”
Jonathan also notified the Senate that the government would issue a $1bn Euro bond in continuation of the programme initiated by the administration of President Umaru Yar’Adua as well as a $100m Diaspora bond.
The borrowing plan earlier submitted to the National Assembly stipulates an annual borrowing of $2.4bn being cumulative facilities offered for the completion of pipeline projects.
The breakdown of the $7.9bn borrowing plan shows that the World Bank will provide $2.975bn; African Development Bank, $731.23m; Islamic Development Bank, $672.85m; French Development Agency, $56.61m; and Exim Bank of China, $3bn.

Ex-banker on hunger strike, sleeps on the street

The tent and Odunayo
Olubiyi Odunaro, a 53-year-old former employee of Hallmark Bank Plc., has embarked on hunger strike to protest against non-payment of his terminal benefit.
Besides, the ex-banker has turned a garden on Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way into his new home, vowing to remain there until he is paid his benefits.
Hallmark Bank was one of the banks which did not meet the Central Bank of Nigeria’s recapilatisation policy in 2005 resulting in its folding up.
Odunaro, a senior manager of the defunct bank, said he began the hunger strike on November 12.
When our correspondent visited him on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, opposite Opebi U Turn Road junction, on Tuesday, he was seen reading a novel ‘Long walk to freedom’ by Nelson Mandela.
He explained that he embarked on the protest to expose the insensitivity of the Federal Government to pay the terminal entitlements of over 14,000 employees of the 14 banks that failed to meet up with the recapitalisation policy.
Odunaro said he wrote President Goodluck Jonathan on October 24 informing him of his decision to embark on the hunger strike if the agencies concerned did not pay them their entitlements on or before October 31.
He said, “I feel downcast with the turn of events in our country and I drew the passion to embark on a hunger strike from my disenchantment to the deliberate denial of common citizens’ rights.
“Before, I began this hunger strike, I sought the consent of my family members and I also underwent a comprehensive medical examination. I erected that tent with N27,000 and it is now my new home.”
Asked if his health has not been deteriorating, Odunaro said, “Though I take water at 8pm everyday, It’s gradually taking a toll on me as I have started losing weight.
“My personal doctor came to examine me on Friday and he said I am not doing bad health wise. There have been pleas from friends and other loved ones to end this strike. But, I will continue with the hunger strike until the FG pays us our lawful entitlements.”
He lamented that despite the laid down procedures contained in the Guidelines and Incentives on Consolidation in the Nigerian Banking Industry, they had not been attended to.
He said, “It wasn’t our wish or our making to be out of jobs. The CBN in its own wisdom introduced the recapitalisation policy and afterwards withdrew the operating licence of Hallmark Bank where I worked and 13 other banks for failing to meet up with the recapitalisation policy deadline.
“But, seven years on, the guidelines on consolidation which make provision for our compensation in view of the development had not been followed.”
He said despite writing several letters of appeal as a group to the FG and other relevant agencies concerning the issue, they had been ignored.
He said, “On a personal note, I even took it upon myself to get President Goodluck Jonathan informed by posting series of comments about this issue on his Facebook page.
“Unfortunately, nothing has been done and many of us live a deplorable way of life with the majority unable to meet obligations to their children and other dependants.
“Thirty-eight people from just three banks that I know of have died and one of the employees of Hallmark Bank committed suicide in Aba, Abia State, as a result of his inability to eke out a living.”
